Marietta is located Northwest of Lancaster City, right on the east bank of the Susquehanna River. It’s a small borough, covering just 0.75 square miles of land. It is home to around 2,500 people.
In the early 1700s, James Anderson began laying out a town that would eventually become Marietta. There were various other people who contributed to the planning and growth of the town over the following years.
The town got its name from the names of the first two settlers’ wives: Mary Cook and Etta Anderson. Combine these two names and you have “Marietta.”
Marietta lies in the heart of Pennsylvania Amish Country, and is surrounded by beautiful fields and fertile farmland.
